Interaction of aspect and tense of Russian and Italian verbs in translation

Abstract

В докладе рассматриваются соотношения между видом и временем в русском и итальянском языках в переводческом процессе. В соответствии с целью работы выдвигаются теоретические и практические задачи. Кроме того, обусловливаются критерии подбора произведения на русском и критерии подбора языкового корпуса анализируемых глагольных форм. Материалом исследования является повесть А. П. Чехова «Дуэль» и пять ее переводов на итальянский. Особое внимание также уделяется важности применения фреймового метода к анализу глагольных форм. В частности, излагается методика создания общего фрейма грамматического понятия «глагол» в таких типологически отличающихся языках, как русский и итальянский.

In this paper we analyse the relationships between aspect and tense in Russian and Italian, languages which are typologically different. The interaction between aspect and tense can influence the translation process. Several theoretical and practical goals are described in this work. Among all, the criteria at the basis of the choice of the Russian text as well as the criteria for the choice of the linguistic corpus (verbs) are explained. Excerpts of A. Chekhov’s short story The Duel are analysed and compared to five different translations into Italian. Also, special attention is given to the study of verb forms. Two frames for the concept ‘verb’ are created (one for Russian, one for Italian) and a methodology for the creation of these frames is illustrated.
