Lexical translational transformations as illustrated by the English translations of Mikhail Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita"

Abstract

В работе с помощью авторского метода булевой алгебры исследуются лексические переводческие трансформации на материале английских переводов романа М. А. Булгакова «Мастер и Маргарита». Теоретической основой исследования послужила выдвинутая автором концепция трехуровневой структуры адекватности ЛПТ при переводе художественных текстов. На этой базе и с помощью выдвинутого метода быстро и эффективно проанализирован большой массив ЛПТ, выделены общие закономерности их оценки и сделаны конкретные выводы об адекватности двух переводов.

This bachelor thesis is devoted to analysis of lexical transformations in English translations of M. Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita" with the use of the author's method of Boolean algebra. The theoretical basis of the research was the author’ concept of a three-level structure of adequacy of lexical transformations in translation of literary texts. On this basis and with the help of the proposed method, a large amount of lexical transformations was analyzed quickly and effectively, general patterns of their evaluation were identified, and concrete conclusions were drawn about the adequacy of the two translations.
