Mitigating the illocutionary force of assertive speech acts to save the face of conversation participants: A case study of English-Russian translation

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена изучению высказываний, содержащих смягчение иллокутивного намерения с целью сохранения лица коммуниканта. Автор выявляет основные тенденции перевода средств смягчения иллокутивной силы ассертива на русский язык. Исходным языковым материалом исследования послужили диалоги в художественных текстах британских писателей, а также их перевод на русский язык. Было рассмотрено 90 русских примеров с переводом на английский язык.

This final qualification work is dedicated to the study of speech acts with mitigated illocutionary force to save the face of conversation participants. The author reveals general tendencies of translating the means of mitigation the illocutionary force of assertive speech acts into russian. The source language material of the study is the case of English-Russian translation of books by British authors. 90 examples and their translations were analyzed.
