The socio-economic status of the family and speech development of the Russian-language child: An analysis of longitudinal research data

Abstract

В настоящей работе исследуется влияние социально-экономического статуса на речевое взаимодействие матери и ребенка на материале последовательных наблюдений за членами двух семей с низким социальным статусом. С помощью пакета компьютерных программ CLAN были измерены основные характеристики речи матери, обращенной к ребенку. Кроме того, были выделены основные коммуникативные стратегии, которые используются матерями на различных этапах формирования языковой компетенции у детей. Главной целью работы стало выявление факторов, компенсирующих отрицательное воздействия СЭС на усвоение ребенком родного языка.

In the graduation work we observe the influence of socio-economic status on speech interaction between mother and child based on the data collected from continual observation of members of two families with low sociо-economic status. Using the package of computer programs CLAN we analyzed the main characteristics of mother's child-directed speech. Besides, we outlined main communicative strategies, which are used by mothers on during different stages of construction of child's communicative competence. The main objective of the work is determining the factors, which compensate SES's negative influence on child's ability to learn their mother tongue.
