The intonation and syntax patterns of shifting to a new topic in news TV and radio programmes: The functional aspect

Abstract

Работа посвящена изучению функционирования интонационных и синтаксических средств в переходах к новой теме программ новостей. В качестве материала исследования использованы новостные программы телеканалов "Россия" ("Вести”), "НТВ" (“Итоги недели”), "Первого Канала" (“Время”) и радиопрограммы каналов «Радио Маяк», «Эхо Москвы», «Вести FM», «Радио России». В работе описан спектр синтаксических и интонационных возможностей в подаче новостей, в организации определённой эмоциональной и интеллектуальной реакции на новости и в формировании активной позиции слушателя. Сравнительно-сопоставительный анализ показал, что в новостных радиопередачах интонационный рисунок подводок к новостным сюжетам оказался более бедным по типам использованных интонационных конструкций по сравнению с телевизионными программами.

The graduate qualification paper is devoted to the study of intonational and syntactical means and their functions in news programmes. The thesis paper also elicits the specifics of intonational and syntactical structure of shifting to a new topic in the spoken language of Russian-speaking moderators. The empirical background of the research contains shifting constructions selected by continuous sampling from various news programmes of such channels as "Россия" 'Russia' ("Вести” 'News'), "НТВ" 'NTV' (“Итоги недели” 'This week's news'), "Первый Канал" 'The First Channel' (“Время” 'Time') and such radio channels as «Радио Маяк» 'Radio Lighthouse', «Эхо Москвы» 'The Echo of Moscow', «Вести FM» 'News FM' and «Радио России» 'Radio Russia'. The research describes the spectrum of syntactical and intonational means used in presenting news, causing a particular emotional and intellectual reaction to news and forming a proactive stance of the audience. The contrastive-comparative analysis has shown that the intonation pattern of topic shifts in news radio programmes is not as rich in types of used intonational structures as compared to those of news TV-programmes
