Farming as a social and cultural practice

Abstract

В данной магистерской диссертации анализируется особенности фермерства как специфической профессиональной деятельности. В работе отражены результаты комплексного лонгитюдного антропологического исследования трех кейсов - трех фермерских хозяйств в течение 4 лет. Фермерство рассматривается как единство экономического, социального и культурного компонентов, соотношение которых в разные периоды меняется. Социокультурная специфика образа жизни фермеров выражается в отношении фермеров к труду, к природе, значимости семейных отношений, коммуникации внутри коллектива, обмене знаниями. В работе также анализируются препятствия для эффективного функционирования фермерских хозяйств и, каким образом они влияют на перспективу развития в России фермерства как профессии и как образа жизни.

The subject of the MA dissertation was the analysis of the peculiarities of farming as a specific professional activity. The paper provides the results of an anthropological longitudinal study of the three cases which were three farming enterprises for nearly four years in a row. The paper considers the integrity of both economical, social and cultural aspects of farming, while correlation of every of the aspects changes in accordance with every certan period of time. Social and cultural features of farmers' lifestyle is demonstrated, resulting in attitude towards labour, nature, the relevance of family ties, the communication in a work collective, the exchange of expertise. The paper reveals the certain types of hindrances existing which prevent farms to effectively operate and how these hindrances influence the perspective for Russian farming to develop as a profession and a lifestyle.
