The spelling reform in the French language of France, Belgium, and Canada

Abstract

Исследование данной выпускной квалификационной работы посвящено орфографической реформе французского языка 1990 г. В работе рассматривается история упрощения французской орфографии, описывается контекст введения и приводится содержание реформы орфографии от 1990 г., а также рассматривается реакция на вводимые поправки со стороны различных франкофонных стран. На материале французской, бельгийской и канадской прессы проводится анализ частотности употребления лексических единиц, затронутых поправками, в традиционном и новом орфографических вариантах. В ходе исследования предпринимается попытка выявить статистически, насколько широко применяются на практике новые правила орфографии. В работе анализируется применение орфографических поправок в текстах электронных периодических изданий по каждой рассматриваемой стране, а также приводится сопоставительный анализ частотности применения поправок для всех трех исследуемых стран. В соответствии с применяемыми правилами выявляются категории орфографических поправок, при употреблении которых в большей или меньшей степени отдается предпочтение нововводимому варианту орфографии во франкофонном сообществе Франции, Бельгии и Канады.

The study of the graduation work focuses on the French spelling reforms of 1990. The paper examines the history of the simplification of French orthography, describes the context of the spelling reform introduction, gives the content of the spelling reform of 1990, and reviews the reaction of the various Francophone countries to the amendments introduced. The study analyzes the use of the lexical units that are subject to the spelling amendments in their traditional or newly introduced spelling variants in the texts of popular French-language newspapers of France, Belgium, and Canada. The study attempts to identify statistically how widely the new spelling rules are applied in practice. The paper analyzes the use of the spelling amendments in the texts of electronic periodicals for each country studied, and also provides a comparative analysis of the frequency of the new orthography application for all the three countries. Accordingly to the rules applied, categories of spelling amendments are identified, the use of which, to a greater or lesser extent, shows preference to the newly introduced spelling variant in the francophone community of France, Belgium and Canada.
