Linguistic characteristic of metacommunicative inclusions in "German grammar" by J.Ch. Gottsched and its translation into Russian

Abstract

Работа посвящена анализу метакоммуникативных включений в грамматике «Grundlegung einer deutschen Sprachkunst» И.К. Готшеда (1748) и ее переводе на русский язык, «Готшедовой немецкой грамматике» И.М. Греча (1760). Проблематика метакоммуникативного уровня научного текста обладает богатым потенциалом для исследования. Метакоммуникативные включения – это небольшие фрагменты текста, которые не имеют прямого отношения к содержанию сообщения, но несут информацию о его коде, об отношениях коммуникантов. Исследуемые грамматики создавались в одну эпоху, но в разных социокультурных условиях, что объясняет особенности перевода и адаптации источника к новым функциям. Грамматика Готшеда была частью борьбы за литературный немецкий язык, а перевод И.М. Греча создавался с дидактической целью в ситуации, когда немецкий был одним из значимых языков-посредников в процессах европеизации России. Анализ терминологического аппарата показывает характер коммуникации между метаязыками и свидетельствует о становлении научной терминологии, о большей архаичности русского перевода. Метакоммуникативные включения с функцией структурной организации текста облегчают восприятие связи между элементами текста, различение научного описания и иллюстративных фрагментов. Вместе с паралингвистическими включения они облегчают восприятие и привлекают внимание к значимой информации. Метакоммуникативные элементы, выражающие авторское начало, в большом количестве присутствуют в грамматике И.К. Готшеда и сравнительно немногочисленны у И.М. Греча. Это подтверждает диалогический и философско-риторический замысел оригинального текста, адаптированный при переводе к наставительной интонации учебника.

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of the metacommunicative elements in the grammar book «Grundlegung einer deutschen Sprachkunst» by J.Ch. Gottsched (1748) and its translation into Russian, «Gottsched’s German Grammar» by J.E. Gretch (1760). The problem of the metacommunicative level of the scientific text has rich study potential. Metacommunicative elements are small text fragments, which refer not to the content of the message but include information about the code of the message, about the relationship between the communicants. Analyzed grammars were created in one period but in different sociocultural situations. It explains the specialties of the translation and adaptation of the grammar to the new functions. Gottsched’s grammar was a part of the struggle for the literary German language and the translation by Gretch was created with a didactic intention in the situation, when German language was one of the mediator languages in the process of the Europeanization of Russia. The terminology analysis lets us see the character of the communication between metalanguages and shows the formation of the scientific terminology, archaic character of Russian translation. Metacommunicative elements with the function of structural text organization help to percept the connections between the text fragments, to differ scientific description and illustrative fragments. Together with the paralinguistic elements they help the perception and draw attention to the significant information. There are many metacommunicative elements that express the author’s position in the Gottsched’s grammar but there are few in the Gretch’s grammar. It confirms a dialogical and philosopho-rhetorical author’s intention in the original text, that was changed by the translation.
