Tropes in Winston Churchill's speeches and their translation

Abstract

Настоящее исследование посвящено анализу основанных на метафоре и метонимии тропов в речах Уинстона Черчилля и их переводов на русский язык. Метафора и метонимия рассматриваются с позиций семантического и когнитивного подходов. Первая глава содержит обзор предыдущих исследований по метафоре и метонимии, а также основных теоретических положений переводоведения. Во второй главе представлены результаты когнитивно-дискурсивного анализа, категории метафор и метонимий в речах Уинстона Черчилля и стратегии их перевода.

The study investigates the use of metaphor and metonymy based tropes in Winston Churchill's speeches and their translations into Russian. Semantic and cognitive approaches are used to analyze metaphor and metonymy. The first chapter provides an overview of previous research on metaphor and metonymy and the key theoretical concepts of translation studies. The second chapter presents the results of cognitive discourse analysis, common categories of metaphors and metonymies used in Winston Churchill’s speeches and their translation strategies.
