Forbidding phrases in English and Russian: A contrastive study

Abstract

Настоящая работа посвящена изучению способов выражения запрета в английском и русском языках. Особенности способов выражения запрета ещё недостаточно изучены. Именно это объясняет актуальность данной работы и выбранной темы. Основными методами исследования являются анализ научной литературы, изучение и обобщение отечественного и зарубежного опыта. Основными материалами исследования послужили коммуникативные ситуации из текстов художественных произведений и кинофильмов, сведения из официальных интернет-источников, официальных запрещающих знаков и правил поведения. В ходе исследования были выделены коммуникативные единицы и речевые формулы, характерные для речевого акта запрета в английском и русском языках. Сделан вывод, что в русской речи запреты чаще, чем в английской, выражаются прямо и категорично. Все задачи выполнены, цели достигнуты.

This work is devoted to the study of the ways of expressing the prohibition in English and Russian languages. The peculiarities of the ways of expressing the prohibition have not been sufficiently studied. This explains the relevance of this work and the chosen topic. The main research methods are the analysis of scientific literature, the study and synthesis of domestic and foreign experience. The main materials of the study were communicative situations from literature and movies, information from official Internet sources, official prohibiting signs and rules of conduct. Communicative units and speech formulas, characteristic of the speech act of prohibition in English and Russian were singled out in the course of the study. The conclusion is drawn that prohibitions are expressed more directly and categorically in Russian language than in English. All tasks are fulfilled, the goals are achieved successfully.
