Interlingual and cross-cultural communication: Difficulties in translating realia. A case study of legal language in fiction and film text

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена изучению проблем межъязыковой и межкультурной коммуникации – языковым реалиям и способам их перевода. Проблема рассматривается на примере перевода юридической терминологии в неспециальных текстах, а именно в художественной литературе и кинотексте. В процессе работы были изучены и подробно описаны наиболее частотные способы и приемы, используемые при переводе реалий. Также стоит отметить, что терминология в целом, и юридическая терминология в частности, исследованы в незначительной степени, если рассматривать перевод неспециальных текстов. Итогом работы послужил анализ наиболее частотных приемов перевода юридической терминологии, встречающейся в кинотексте популярных сериалов. Данное исследование может быть использовано в практической деятельности переводчиков в области перевода художественной литературы и кинотекстов, а также элективах или учебных занятиях в ВУЗах по теории и практике перевода.

The thesis is aimed at the study of the problems of interlingual and cross-cultural communication, which are language realities and ways of their translation. This is one of the most controversial aspects. The problem is considered on the example of legal terminology translation in non-special texts like fiction and film texts. The most frequent methods and techniques used in the translation of realities are studied and described in detail. It is also noticed that terminology in general and legal terminology in particular are investigated not enough, considering the translation of non-special texts. The result of the research is the analysis of the most frequent methods of translation of legal terminology found in the film text of popular TV series. This work can be used by practical translators in the field of translation of fiction and film texts, as well as electives or training sessions in higher schools on the theory and practice of translation.
