The concepts ‘conscience’ and ‘consciousness’ in the New Testament and in translation traditions

Abstract

В выпускной квалификационной работе исследуется, какие значения имеет слово συνείδησις в классическом греческом языке, в Ветхом и Новом Заветах, а также в традиции перевода. Автор пытается проанализировать исходное значение этого греческого слова и понять, какой смысл вкладывал в него апостол Павел. В работе сравниваются переводы слова συνείδησις на современные языки и выявляются истоки расхождения значений понятий «совесть» и «сознание» в русском языке.

It is examined in the graduation thesis what meanings the word συνείδησις has in secular Greek, in Old Testament and New Testament as well as in translation traditions. The Author has tried to analyze its initial meaning and to comprehend how Paul had interpreted this word. Translation of the word συνείδησις into modern languages has been examined in this work and the origin of disagreement between Russian concepts “conscience” and “consciousness” has been identified.
