“Faust” by Goethe in translation by I. J. Franko

Abstract

Моя выпускная квалификационная работа называется ««Фауст» Гете в переводе И.Я. Франко». В ВКР исследуется значение этого перевода для украинского языка и украинской литературы. ВКР состоит из введения, двух частей и выводов. Первая часть – теоретическая, вторая – практическая. В теоретической части рассматривается история переводов «Фауста», до и после Франко, Франко как переводчика история этого перевода, почему Франко выбрал именно это произведение для перевода. Практическая часть содержит анализ перевода писателя, его сравнения с переводом Н.А. Холодковского. На основе результатов исследования сделан вывод, что перевод И.Франко сильно повлиял на развитие украинской литературы и украинского языка, потому что в то время они находились в стадии развития.

My research is called "Goethe's Faust in the translation of I. Franko". The research focuses on meaning of this translation for the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian literature. The research consists of an introduction, two parts and a conclusion. The first part is theoretical, the second – practical. In the theoretical part we consider the history of translation of "Faust", before and after Franco, Franco as a translator, history of this translation, why Franco chose this work for translation. The practical part contains the analysis of the translation, his comparison with the translation of N.A. Kholodkovsky. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the translation of I. Franko hadhad an influence on the development of Ukrainian literature and the Ukrainian language, because at that time they were in the development stage.
