Linguocultural analysis of farewell songs in German and Russian folklore

Abstract

Die vorliegende Masterarbeit ind der Erforschung der Abschiedslieder in der deutschen und russischen Volksdichtung gewidmet. In den deutschen Volksliedersammlungen werden die Lieder, die sich auf eine Situation der Trennung beziehen,als eine eigenständige Liedgruppe "Abschiedslieder" betrachtet. In der russischen Kultur lässt sich keine entsprechende abgesonderte thematische Liedgruppe finden. Das Motiv des Abschieds kommt aber in den Liedern der beiden Traditionen vor und basiert auf einer universalen Kategorie des menschlichen Daseins. Die Situation der Abschiednahme schildern in der deutschen Volksdichtung die Lieder der Wandergesellen, die sih auf den bekannten europäischen Brauch beziehen, die Soldatenlieder und die Auswandererlieder, die entweder von den Emigranten stammen, die nach Amerika ausgewandert sind, oder von den deutschen Kolonisten in Russland gesungen wurden. Die Vergleichsanalyse der deutschen und russischen Volksdichtung ermöglicht eine weitere Auffassung des Abschieds als eines Übergans des Menschen auf die neue Etappe des Lebens. Es wird angenommen, dass die Lieder it dem Abschiedsmotiv in den beiden Traditionen auch im Rahmen der Bestattungs- und Hochzeitsriten vorkommen. In der vorliegenden Studie wird eine neue Klassifikation der Abschiedslieder der deutschen und russischen Volksdichtung vorgeschlagen. Sie enthält die genannten thematischen Liedgruppen und basiert auf der Analyse der kultur-historischen Entwicklung der beiden Länder. Die Semntik des Abschieds wird in den Liedtexten mit Hilfe bestimmter lexikalischer Mittel ausgedrückt. Die lexikalisch-semantische Analyse gibt die Möglichkeit, die Besonderheiten der Auffassung des Abschiedsmotivs in den beiden Traditionen hervorzuheben.

The given research is dedicated to the analysis of the farewell songs in the German and Russian folklore. In the German traditional folk songs collections farewell songs are usually included into a special group “Abschiedslieder”, which is not typical for the russian culture. Howewer, farewell often appears as the subject of different russian folk songs, that demonstrates the essential role of this motive for these two traditions in general. The motive of farewell characterizes in the German folklore the songs of the journeymen, which refer to the popular european tradition, the soldiers songs and the songs of the German refugees, mainly those, who had left for Amerika in the 19th. Century, and also those, who lived in Russia. The comparative analysis of the German and Russian folklore makes it possible to expand the scope of the research by interpretating the farewel motive as a passage from one lifecycle-phase to another. From this perspective it can be stated that the analysed motive appears in the both traditions as a part of a funeral ceremony and wedding customs. The present linguokultural study offers a new classification of the farewell songs in the German and Russian folklore, which includes the mentioned thematic song groups and is based on the analysis of the historical and cultural development of each nation. The semantics of farewell in the folksongs is marked by particular lexikal elements. The lexical-semantic analysis of the song texts provides a opportunity to get the full picture of the interpretation of the farewell motiv in two different cultures.
