Pragmatics of speech acts with understatement

Abstract

Работа посвящена исследованию прагматических функций приёма understatement в британском политическом дискурсе. Установлено, что в данном типе дискурса прагматические функции приёма understatement актуализируются через ряд тактик, которые служат для реализации и смягчения вербализации двух дискурсивных стратегий стратегии на понижение и стратегии на повышение, а в ряде случаев для перевода их в импликацию.

The main goal of this research is to figure out and analyze the methods of representation of the rhetoric device of understatement and its functions in British political discourse. In this type of discourse the pragmatic functions of understatement are realized though a number of tactics, that are used to realize and at the same time mitigate two discourse strategies; in certain circumstances these tactics may be used to implicate these strategies.
