Methodology of integrating multimedia and digital technologies into the English language classroom of 5th, 6th and 7th grade learners of a secondary school

Abstract

Данное исследование посвящено разработке методики использования мультимедийных и цифровых технологий в обучении английскому языку учащихся 5-7-х классов средней школы. Первая глава излагает теоретические основы по теме данного исследования. В ней представлен ретроспективный анализ использования мультимедийных и цифровых технологий в обучении иностранным языкам, описаны психолого-возрастные особенности учащихся 5-7-х классов, а также исследовано понятие цифровой компетентности и предложено рабочее определение цифровой компетентности на английском языке. Во второй главе автор исследования предлагает методику использования мультимедийных и цифровых технологий для младшего подросткового возраста. Глава содержит методические рекомендации и упражнения, направленные на формирование у учащихся 5-7-х классов основ цифровой компетентности на английском языке как основания для интеграции мультимедийных и цифровых технологий в процесс обучения английскому языку в средней школе.

The present study is dedicated to the issue of designing methodology for integrating multimedia and digital technologies into the English language classroom at secondary school. The first chapter of the current paper provides the theoretical framework of the study. Here the author undertakes the overwhelming review of the most important aspects of the problem, such as retrospective analysis of the use of multimedia and digital technologies in language learning; age specificities of 5-7th graders, the notions of digital literacy and digital competence. As a result, the paper suggests a working definition of the digital competence in the English language for early stages of secondary school language education. The second chapter of the paper considers the aspects of the desired methodology based on the findings of the theoretical part. i.e. the methodology for integrating multimedia and digital technologies into the English language secondary school classroom. The author provides methodological guidelines for teachers and activities for learners both aimed at developing different components of digital competency in the English language which substantiates the necessity of integrating multimedia and digital technologies into English language classroom as early as from the very beginning of secondary school learning.
