Assessment and evaluation scheme for professionally-oriented foreign language communicative competence of medical students

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена проблеме преподавания профессионально-ориентированного английского языка в высшем учебном медицинском учреждении, а также проблеме оценки эффективности системы промежуточного и итогового тестирования при обучении студентов-медиков английскому языку. Актуальность темы обусловлена повышенным вниманием к иноязычной компетенции медицинских работников во время и после пандемии COVID-19, а также недостаточным вниманием к разработке контрольно-измерительных материалов в обучении студентов медицинских вузов английскому языку в целом. Целью эксперимента является разработка системы контрольно-измерительных материалов и анализ полученных результатов для обучения профессионально-ориентированному языку в медицинском вузе; проведение тестов в аудитории и в цифровом формате. Особое внимание уделено статистическому анализу результатов онлайн и оффлайн тестирования. Результатом проделанной работы стало создание спецификации для каждого теста, инструкции, содержательно-деятельностная матрица для каждого теста. Разработанная система аттестации может быть использована преподавателями иностранного языка студентам по специальности «Стоматология» в высшем медицинском образовательном учреждении.

The thesis is devoted to the problem of teaching professionally oriented English at medical schools, as well as to the development of a system of summative and formative assessment scheme for testing professionally-oriented foreign language communicative competence of medical students. The relevance of the topic is due to increased attention to the foreign language communicative competence of medical workers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as insufficient attention to the development of control materials for teaching English to medical students in general. The aim of this article is to develop a system of testing and evaluation materials and analyze the results obtained for teaching a professionally oriented language at a medical university, as well as conducting tests offline and online formats, statistical analysis of the obtained results. To prepare tests for conducting at a medical university, an analysis of specialized scientific and class literature for teaching professionally oriented language was made, as well as international validated tests that assess the foreign language competence of candidates in the field of medicine were also analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the statistical analysis of the results of online and offline testing. The developed assessment scheme can be used by English language teachers in higher medical educational institutions for teaching English to dental students.
