Parentheses in the text of a linguistic monograph as illustrated by the works of V.V. Vinogradov and E.S. Kubryakova

Abstract

В данной работе описываются особенности функционирования вводных конструкций со значением ‘уверенность / неуверенность’ в лингвистических монографиях В.В. Виноградова «Русский язык. Грамматическое учение о слове» и Е.С. Кубряковой «Язык и знание». На основе анализа 608 контекстов введения вводных конструкций, извлеченных методом сплошной выборки из двух монографий, сопоставимых в содержательном плане, доказана гипотеза: функционирование категории субъективной модальности в научных текстах обусловлено влиянием элементов коммуникативной ситуации и языковой личностью исследователя, который обладает определенной свободой в выражении своей точки зрения, придерживаясь общих требований научного стиля. Для В.В. Виноградова характерно почти полное отсутствие показателей авторской субъективности, кроме вводных конструкций; для воздействия на читателя ученый делает упор на логичность и линейность развертывания изложения, а свои гипотезы и предположения подтверждает языковыми примерами. Е.С. Кубрякова делает упор не только на логичность и доказательность, но также и на допустимое в рамках монографии эмоциональное воздействие на читателя. Степень выражения авторской категоричности при оценке научных положений других ученых у В.В. Виноградова выше, чем у Е.С. Кубряковой.

This thesis presents features of the functioning of parentheses with the meaning of 'certainty / uncertainty' in linguistic monograph as indicators of a category of subjective modality in the Russian humanities texts using an example of V.V. Vinogradov's monograph "The Russian language. Grammatical doctrine of the word " and E.S. Kubryakova's "Language and Knowledge". Based on analysis of 608 contexts with parentheses that were extracted by continuous sampling from comparable in terms of content two monographs, the hypothesis that the functioning of the category of subjective modality in scientific texts is due to the influence of the elements of communicative situations and language researcher personality who has a certain freedom to express their point view adhering to the general requirements of scientific style was proved. There are not the indicators of the author's subjectivity in VV Vinogradov’s text except parentheses. The linguist focuses on consistency and linearity of the deployment of presentation to influence on the reader and proves their hypotheses and assumptions with linguistic examples. E.S Kubryakova focuses not only on logic and evidence, but also on the permissible within the monograph emotional impact on the reader. The degree of expression of the author's categorical in assessing the scientific provisions of other scientists in VV Vinogradov’s monograph is higher than the same in ES Kubryakova’s .
