The contemporary position of the Occitan language in France

Abstract

Работа посвящена анализу современного положения окситанского языка во Франции. В ней определяются различные подходы к понятию региональный язык, статус окситанского языка. Рассматриваются специфика языковой политики Франции, институты, ответственные за поддержку и сохранение окситанского языка, исследуется процесс преподавания окситанского языка в различных учебных заведениях, анализируется положение современной окситанской культуры, приводятся данные социолингвистических исследований, типология носителей окситанского языка и типы мотиваций его изучения.

This paper is devoted to the analysis of the contemporary position of the Occitan language in France. It describes different approaches to the term «regional language». It is dealt with the specificity of the language policy in France and institutes that are responsible for support and preservation of the Occitan language. The process of teaching Occitan language in different educational institution is examined as well as the position of the contemporary Occitan culture is analyzed. The paper looks at recent sociolinguistic research dealing with the typology of the contemporary informants of the Occitan language and motivations of its learning.
