The Expulsion the Moneylenders from the Temple: Philology, history and theology

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена новозаветной сцене изгнания Иисусом Христом торговцев из храма. События, касающиеся жизнеописания Иисуса, никогда не теряют своей актуальности. Знаменитая сцена интересна для исследования по многим причинам. Она представлена во всех четырех канонических евангелиях, однако ее расположение в синоптических евангелиях отлично от четвертого. Описание сцен у синоптиков и у Иоанна также (при большом количестве сходств) сильно различается. Более того: высказывание Иисуса, приведенное в сцене очищения храма Иоанном, в синоптических евангелиях упомянуто лжесвидетелями против Иисуса на суде, перед его казнью. В связи с этим появляется ряд вопросов, найти ответы на которые и является целью данной работы: об одном ли событии свидетельствуют евангелисты, в чем значение сцены в храме, что значат действия Иисуса, а, главное, по какой причине именно момент, присутствующий лишь у Иоанна, представлен синоптиками как одна из причин для казни Иисуса. Для достижения поставленной цели проведены следующие действия: В первой главе данной работы выполнены перевод и филологический разбор описаний сцены в храме. Определены сходства и различия свидетельств евангелистов, предпринята попытка решить, какое евангелистское свидетельство больше претендует на историчность. Вторая глава посвящена выяснению значения сцены "очищения храма" у синоптиков и у Иоанна. Рассмотрены мнения исследователей Библии, комментарии ученых. Выполнен анализ присутствующих у евангелистов в данной сцене аллюзий и цитат из Ветхого Завета. Заключительная, третья глава, посвящена исследованию стихов Ин. 2:18-22, содержащих слова Иисуса, впоследствии использованные против него на суде. В ходе исследования понято значение этих слов, их смысл и богословие, а также, что важно, установлена связь между сценой очищения храма и арестом и последующей гибелью Иисуса. В Заключении представлены результаты проведенной работы.

The present work focuses on a New Testament's scene of the Jesus' expulsion of the moneylenders from the temple. Events relating to Jesus' life have always remained pertinent. There are many reasons which make the well-known scene in the temple interesting to study. Cleansing of the temple is depicted in each of the four canonical Gospels, nevertheless, it has different setting in Synoptic and Johannine accounts. The way the Synoptics describe the scene also differs markedly from the way John does it (although two traditions have many similarities). Furthermore, John's scene contains Jesus' statement, which is mentioned by Synoptics as a perjury against Jesus at the trial before his execution. It all raises a host of questions, which have to be answered. This is the aim of the present research. Do evangelists describe the same event? What is the meaning of the scene? What do Jesus' actions mean? Most importantly, why exactly the feature, which is peculiar to John, becomes, according to the Synoptics, one of the reasons for arresting and then killing Jesus? The following actions have been undertaken to achieve the objective: Chapter one presents the translation of scene's depictions and its philological analysis. It also includes the specification of similarities and differences between evangelists' traditions. The attempt has been made to decide, which testimony is the more plausible. Chapter two examines the meaning of the scene in the temple. Commentaries of biblical scholars and their views on this issue have been considered. The citations and allusions to the Old Testament which are presented in the scene by each evangelist have been analyzed. Chapter three is devoted to the study of John 2:18-22. These verses concern Jesus' statement, which was later used against him, according to the Synoptics. The meaning and the theology of these verses have been determined. What is particularly important, the link between the scene in the temple and Jesus' arrest and subsequent death has been made. The results of the work are presented in Summary.
