Elegiac elements in Alexader Griboyedov’s comedy “Woe from wit”

Abstract

В. М. Маркович определил структуру комедии А. С. Грибоедова «Горе от ума» как сосуществование незавершенных, «недовоплощенных» жанровых форм, в т. ч. элегии, поэмы, баллады, сатиры и оды. Определить и проанализировать функционирование одной из таких форм – элегического начала (элегики) – и является целью данной работы. В работе представлен обзор конститутивных признаков элегии 1790–1840-х гг. и их трансформации в истории русской литературы. Дано смысловое наполнение термина «элегика», проанализированы отдельные реплики действующих лиц как высказывания, в которых проявляется элегика, сопоставлены значимые композиционные элементы комедии с построением элегических текстов. Сопоставление нескольких редакций комедии (ранняя редакция, т. н. «Музейный автограф», Жандровский список и Булгаринский, принятый как основной вариант пьесы) позволяет проследить, как в ходе работы над текстом автор обращался к элегическому модусу и ко всему жанровому комплексу русской литературы начала века. Элегика, проникая в структуру грибоедовской комедии, модифицирует ее элементы, устоявшиеся в практике русских драматургов к 1820-м гг.: реплики героев, их характеры, время комедии, ее композицию, сюжет. Модификация этих элементов позволяет говорить о «Горе от ума» как о новаторском тексте, ставшем предвестником тех явлений и преобразований, которые произойдут в русской литературе спустя десятилетия.

V. M. Markovich defined the structure of the Griboedov’s comedy “Woe from wit” as coexistence of “not embodied” genres such as elegy, poem, ballad, satire, ode. This graduate work is dedicated to reveal and analyse the operation of elegiac elements in the play. In the research conduct the review of the basic principles and characteristic of elegiac genre 1790–1840s due to scientific and critical research about this genre and its position among lyrical system of the first half of 19th century. The work then deals with the meaning of the term for “elegica” (элегика). Some characters’ cues are set against the lyrical statements, where elegiac elements break out. Certain compositional elements of the Griboedov’s comedy are compared with the construction of elegies. Also, in this paper consider different redactions of “Woe from wit” (earlier reduction – the “Museum autograph”, Zhandrovsky autograph and the main one – Bulgarin’s autograph). The difference between these reductions allows us to deduce the evolution of Griboedov’s creation, his application for complex of genres of Russian literature of the early 19th century. Elegiac elements penetrate the Griboedov’s comedy and modify its structure, that was traditional to dramatists towards 1820s. For instance, it transforms the composition of play, dramatic characters, plot, time. Modification of this elements permit us to define “Woe from wit” as the innovative text of Russian literature, that has turned out as harbinger of its reformation a few decades later.
