Reception of Fernando Arrabal's works in modern Russian culture

Abstract

В работе рассматривается процесс рецепции творчества испанского драматурга Фернандо Аррабаля в современной российской культуре. Ф. Аррабаль, признанный во всем мире одной из главной фигур театра абсурда, до недавнего времени был практически неизвестен в России, однако сейчас некоторые из его произведений обретают популярность. Целью исследования является представление обобщающего обзора данного процесса и выдвижение его возможных объяснений. Используя такие материалы, как текст самой популярной пьесы Ф. Аррабаля, "Пикник", и записи ее постановок в российских театрах, автор выделяет некоторые тенденции ее репрезентации.

The paper reviews the process of reception of the works written by Spanish playwright Fernando Arrabal in the contemporary Russian culture. The dramatist, who is recognized worldwide as one of the main figures of the Theatre of the Absurd, has been almost unknown in Russia until recent times, but now some of his plays are gaining popularity. The purpose of the study is to present an overall review of the process and give some possible explanations of this phenomenon. Using such primary sources as the text of Arrabal's most popular play, "Pic-Nic", and records of this play staged in Russian theatres, the author reveals some tendencies of its representation.
