Economics of Cryptocurrency Price Formation: Example of Bitcoin

Abstract

Целью этой работы является выявление факторов формирования стоимости криптовалют на примере биткоина. Это исследование отличается тем, что рассматривает новости не как фактор разового воздействия на цену биткоина, а как переменную, которая связана с ценой биткоина на промежутке более двух лет. Еще одной особенностью данной работы является промежуток изучения цены биткоина. Основной вывод работы состоит в том, что биткоин как инновационный актив, а также актив который существует исключительно в сети интернет, впитывает информацию, находящуюся в интернете. Также была найдена связь между интересом общенственности, выраженным количеством посещений старницы "Bitcoin" в "Wikipedia", и изменением цены биткоина.

The purpose of this work is to identify the factors of cryptocurrencies' price formation with the example of bitcoin. This study differs from the existing ones, since it considers news not as a factor of one-time impact on the price of bitcoin, but as a variable that is associated with the price of bitcoin for more than two years. Another feature of this work is the period of bitcoin price study. The main conclusion of the work is that bitcoin, being an innovative asset, absorbs information from the Internet. Also, a connection between the interest of the public(measured by the number of "Bitcoin" page visits on "Wikipedia") and the bitcoin price change was found.
