Teaching linguistics students to translate proper names in fantasy texts (based on the works of American writers)

Abstract

Санкт-Петербургский государственный университет Филологический факультет Специальность 45.04.02 «Теория обучения иностранным языкам и межкультурная коммуникация» АННОТАЦИЯ диссертации на соискание степени магистра «Обучение студентов-переводчиков особенностям перевода имён собственных в текстах фантазийного жанра (на материале произведений американских писателей)», выполненной Филипповой Светланой Андреевной Диссертация посвящена проблеме обучения студентов-переводчиков особенностям перевода имен собственных в текстах фантазийного (фантастического) жанра (на материале произведений американских авторов). В работе рассмотрена типология дискурса, уточнено соотношение понятий фантазийного и фантастического дискурса, дано определение фантастического дискурса как жанра художественного дискурса, описаны особенности перевода имён собственных данного вида дискурса и разработана классификация приёмов перевода имён собственных на материале произведений американского писателя Р. Брэдбери «Вино из одуванчиков», «Марсианские хроники», «Одна-единственная ночь». На основе стилистического анализа данных текстов с применением метода сплошной выборки разработана типология имён собственных, встречающихся в текстах фантастического жанра. Проанализированные теоретические положения стали основой комплекса упражнений для обучения студентов-переводчиков особенностям перевода имён собственных в произведениях фантастического дискурса. The author studies the typology of discourse, specifies the correlation of the terms “fantastic” and “fantasy”, gives the definition of the fantastic discourse as a genre of the fiction discourse, describes the specific features of translating proper names of the fantastic discourse, specifies techniques of translating proper names on the basis of the stories by American writer R. Bradbury “Dandelion Wine”, “The Martian Chronicles”, “One Night In Your Life”. Applying stylistic analysis and the method of continuous sampling (on the basis of the above mentioned stories) the author develops the typology of proper names in the texts of the fantastic genre. Theoretical grounding allows the author to develop a series of tasks and exercises aimed at teaching students to translate proper names in the texts of fantastic discourse.
