Russian expressions ‘nado' and ‘nelza’ with various address and their translations into Russian

Abstract

В ВКР рассматриваются вопросы, связанные с переводом высказываний с «надо» и «нельзя» на английский язык. Материалом исследования послужили следующие группы высказываний: директивы с выраженным детерминантом (собственно директивы и самодирективы), директивы с не выраженным детерминантом (собственно директивы и самодирективы), директивы без детерминанта. Предметом анализа стали особенности адресованности, способы перевода указанных слов категории состояния и синтаксических структур в целом. В результате контекстуального и переводоведческого анализа удалось установить, что наиболее частотным способом выражения детерминанта являются местоимения, а способом перевода – модальные глаголы.

The thesis covers the issues related to the translation of utterances with «надо» and «нельзя» into English. The study material includes the following groups of utterances: directives with explicit determinants (directives themselves and self-directives), directives with implicit determinants (directives themselves and self-directives), and directives without a determinant. Subject matter of the analysis is different addresses, translation methods of aforesaid category of state words and syntactic structures on the whole. As a result of contextual and translational analyses we have found out that the most frequent way of expressing a determinant is a pronoun and the most frequent tool of translation is modal verbs.
