English-language mythonyms in the context of translation into languages of diverse systems

Abstract

Работа посвящена мифонимам в современной англоязычной художественной литературе и стратегиям, использующимися при их переводе на языки различного строя. Был выделен ряд стратегий, ранее не рассматривавшихся в лингвистической литературе, или рассматривавшихся в другом ракурсе. Работа выполнена в русле культурологического направления переводоведения с учётом специфики европейской и восточной лингвокультурных традиций, а также когнитивных факторов. Материалом для исследования послужили романы «Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone» Дж. Роулинг и «American Gods» Н. Геймана, а также их переводы на русский, вьетнамский и китайский языки.

This paper is dedicated to mythonyms in modern English-language fiction and various strategies employed in translating them into languages of diverse systems. We isolate a number of translating strategies that have never been studied before or have been studied from a different angle. The study was performed within the framework of cultural aspect of translation, taking into consideration the differences between European and Eastern linguocultural traditions, as well as cognitive factors. The study material includes the novels "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by J. Rowling and "American Gods" by N. Gaiman, as well as their translations into Russian, Vietnamese and Chinese.
