The translation problems of youth speak from French into Russian and the ways of their overcoming: A case study of Faiza Guene’s works

Abstract

Актуальность темы исследования: Несмотря на постоянный интерес к молодежному французскому жаргону и в частности к возможностям его перевода на русский язык, насколько нам известно, не существует крупных исследований произведений молодых авторов магрибского происхождения, в которых были бы изучены изменения, привнесенные в молодежный жаргон, и их перевод на русский язык, а в случае исследования творчества конкретного автора – Фаизы Гэн – дан анализ переводческих средств, характерных для её языка. Цель диссертации – выявление основных факторов, влияющих на выбор средств перевода молодежного сленга и предложение конкретных способов преодоления трудностей, возникающих в процессе перевода, в виде стратегий, подходящих для каждой группы средств в отдельности. Основные задачи: составить выборку примеров, характерных для молодежного жаргона, на базе четырех изучаемых романов, собранные результаты проанализировать и классифицировать по категориям средств; составить таблицы на материале примеров, взятых из романов и зафиксировать лексикографические данные о происхождении и значении слов и выражений, используемых персонажами книг; проанализировать и описать выявленные категории; сопоставить элементы оригинальной версии и опубликованного перевода; изучить способы передачи единиц молодежного жаргона на русский язык и в случае необходимости предложить свои варианты; составить перечень единиц из непереведенных романов в алфавитном порядке, дать перевод на основе актуальных тенденций молодежного жаргона в русском языке. Объектом исследования является современный французский молодежный жаргон. Предметом исследования являются единицы французского молодежного жаргона, взятые из книг современной французской писательницы Фаизы Гэн, а также из соответствующей версии перевода, выполненного Н.С. Князевой. Теоретико-методическая база исследования: труды зарубежных и отечественных авторов, лингвистов: Л.С. Бархударов, Н.К. Гарбовский, В.Н. Комиссаров, А.Д. Швейцер, J. Delisle, H. Meschonnic, J.-P. Vinay, J. Darbelnet, M. Verdelhan-Bourgade. Эмпирическую базу исследования составляет таблица-выборка из романов: 41 пример из первого романа, 50 примеров из второго романа, 119 примеров из третьего романа и 75 примеров из четвертого романа. Структура работы: введение, три главы, заключение, список литературы, приложение 1, приложение 2.

Relevance. Despite the continued interest of researchers in youth slang and particularly in possibilities to translate it into Russian, there is no major studies exloring works of young authors of Maghreb origin, where the modifications introduced into youth slang and their translation into Russian were examined, and where in case of the concrete author’s works the translation instruments, typical for her language were analysed. The purpose of this study is to identify the main factors influencing the choice of youth slang translation instruments and to propose the concrete ways to overcome the problems, encountered in the process of translation, in the form of appropriate strategies for each groupe of means. To achieve this purpose the author had to set and solve the following tasks: to create a sample of examples, typical for youth slang, based on four examined novels, to study collected results and to classify them by category of means; to compose tables of examples, drawn from the novels and to record lexicographical information about the origin and the meaning of words and expressions used by characters of the novels; to analyse and describe revealed categories; to compare the elements of the original version and the published translation; to scrutinize the ways of youth slang features transmission into Russian and to suggest, if necessary, possible translation; to make an inventory of the elements, drawn from the novels, that have not yet been translated and to arrange them in alphabetical order, to translate them according to the latest trands of youth slang in Russian. The object of the study is French youth jargon. The subject of the study is the elements of French youth, drawn from the novels of contemporary French author Faïza Guène, as well as from the corresponding version of translation, made by N.S. Kniazeva. The theoretical and methodological background of the research includes scientific works by such leading Russian and foreign linguistic specialists as L.S. Barkhudarov, N.K. Garbovsky, V.N. Komissarov, A.D. Svejcer, J. Delisle, H. Meschonnic, J.-P. Vinay, J. Darbelnet, M. Verdelhan-Bourgade and others. The empirical base of the research includes 4 tables with samplings drawn from the novels: 41 instances of the first novel, 50 instances of the second novel, 119 instances of the third novel and 75 instances of the fourth novel. This thesis consists of Introduction, Theoretical Chapter, Classification Chapter, Analyse of Translation Chapter, Conclusion, List of References and Literature, Appendixe I and Appendixe II.
