The Arctic region in the 21st century: A comparative study of Arctic policy of the Russian Federation and the USA

Abstract

В данной исследовательской работе автором была поставлена цель дать прогноз дальнейшего развития арктических стратегий РФ и США в краткосрочной перспективе на основе сравнительного анализа современной арктической политики данных государств. Автор анализирует характерные особенности и выявляет ключевые проблемы развития современной Арктики, осуществляет анализ характера исторического развития, концептуальной основы, внешнеполитического, военно-политического, социально-экономического и экологического аспектов арктической политики РФ и США. Автор приходит к выводам о необходимости формирования новых стратегий развития Арктики как для РФ, так и для США, снижения политической напряженности и развития международного сотрудничества в регионе, а также недопущения развития дилеммы безопасности.

In this research paper, the author sets a goal to forecast the further development of Russian and US Arctic strategies in the short term based on a comparative analysis of the current Arctic policy of these states. The author analyzes the key features and identifies the crucial problems of the development of the modern Arctic, analyzes the nature of the historical development, the conceptual basis, foreign policy, military, socio-economic and environmental aspects of the Arctic policy of the Russian Federation and the United States. The author comes to the conclusions about the need to formulate new strategies for the development of the Arctic for both the Russian Federation and the United States, to reduce political tensions and to promote international cooperation in the region, as well as to prevent the development of the security dilemma.
