The Role of the EU and NATO in security policy of contemporary Federal Republic of Germany

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная бакалаврская работа посвящена вопросу взаимодействия Федеративной Республики Германии с Североатлантическим Альянсом и Европейским Союзом в сфере безопасности. Цель работы заключалась в том, чтобы сравнить роль и определить место НАТО и ЕС в рамках политики безопасности современной ФРГ. Ключевое значение при этом имело выявление основных сфер и особенностей взаимодействия Германии с каждой из этих организаций в сфере безопасности. В результате проведенного исследования были сделаны следующие выводы. На сегодняшний день НАТО является приоритетным форматом обеспечения германской безопасности. Основные сферы взаимодействия ФРГ и НАТО: кризисное урегулирование, расширение Альянса, укрепление европейской опоры НАТО, а также использование, контроль и сокращение ядерных вооружений. В контексте взаимодействия ФРГ и ЕС приоритетными направлениями являются укрепление боеспособности ЕС с опорой на инструменты НАТО, а также европейская интеграция вооружений. Германия стремится повысить взаимозависимость этих структур, и таким образом, исключить противопоставление двух опор своей политики безопасности.

This graduation bachelor qualification paper is devoted to cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union in the field of security. The objective of the work was to compare the roles and determine the position of NATO and EU in security policy of contemporary Federal Republic of Germany. The main attention has been paid to the identification of the main spheres and distinctive features of cooperation between Germany and each of these organizations. As the result of this study the following conclusions were drawn. Nowadays, NATO is the priority format for ensuring German security. The main spheres of cooperation between Germany and NATO are crisis management, enlargement of the Alliance, reinforcement of the NATO European pillar and also use, control and reduction of nuclear weapons. In the context of Germany - EU cooperation, the priority directions are strengthening of EU combat capability supported by NATO instruments as well as European armament integration. Germany strives to enhance interdependence between these structures and therefore to eliminate contradistinction between the two pillars of its security policy.
