St.Petersburg University's school of thought: philosophy, theory and methodology of history at the turn of the 20th century

Abstract

Работа посвящена исследованию историософской и теоретико-методологической специфики петербургской университетской школы на рубеже XIX-XX вв. В истории научного сообщества Петербурга период с 1884 по 1917 г. весьма неоднозначно оценивается в отечественной историографии, однако именно за этим временем прочно закрепилось понятие “кризиса” российской науки. Данное явление непосредственным образом отражает процесс переосмысления петербургскими учёными господствовавших ранее теоретических и методологических концепций и поиск ими новых ориентиров в своей научной деятельности. Анализ проблемы позволяет выявить противоречивый характер “кризиса”, который можно также интерпретировать как период расцвета и новую веху в истории петербургской университетской школы. Подробная характеристика научных трудов учёных-представителей трёх гуманитарных факультетов петербургского университета раскрывает особенности влияния “кризиса” как на развитие их собственных историософских и теоретико-методологических взглядов, так и на формирование подобных представлений на уровне каждого факультета.

This study is devoted to historiosophic and theory-methodological aspect of Saint-Petersburg’s university school at the end of 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The Russian historiography evaluates the time period from 1884 to 1917 as ambiguous for the history of scientific society of Saint-Petersburg, but this period is known as “crisis” of the Russian science. This phenomenon reflects the process of rethinking of dominated theoretical and methodological conceptions by Saint-Petersburg’s scientists and the search for new reference points in historical science activity. The analysis of the problem shows the controversial specific features of the “crisis”, which can be interpreted as a period of intensive development and new stage of Saint-Petersburg’s university school. The mentioned specific of science studies, which represent three humanitarian faculties of Saint-Petersburg State University, describes the features of impact of “crisis” both on theory-methodological and historiosophic views of scientists and formation of analogical presentations on each faculty.
