The perception of Russian speech by native speakers and non-native speakers: A comparative analysis of typical errors

Abstract

Настоящая работа посвящена сопоставительному исследованию восприятия русской звучащей речи носителями русского языка и изучающими русский язык как иностранный. В качестве объекта исследования взят процесс восприятия русской устной речи носителями русского языка и учащимися, изучающими его как иностранный. Предметом исследования являются ошибки восприятия (ослышки). Методы, использованные в данной работе, включают эксперимент по распознаванию на слух стимулов различной длины и анализ ошибок перцепции. В теоретической части данного исследования рассмотрены такие понятия, как «восприятие речи», «ментальный лексикон», «ошибка», «ослышка». Подробно исследованы различия в восприятии устной речи носителями русского языка и изучающими его как иностранный. Практическая часть представляет собой анализ результатов, полученных из проведенного эксперимента по восприятию слов на слух носителями русского языка и изучающими русский язык как иностранный.

The thesis paper deals with the perception of Russian speech by native and non-native speakers with a focus on typical mistakes they make. The aim of this study is to give a detailed comparative analysis of these errors, formulate working hypotheses about their causes and distinguish the most sustainable elements of the words. The theoretical part is devoted to different levels of speech perception, mental lexicon and different classifications of errors and slips of the ear. We have surveyed the literature on problems of perception, word recognition and also covered a lot of primary and secondary sources of information on theories of mistakes that listeners make in their mother tongues and in the process of the second language acquisition. The second part is dedicated to the experiment and comparative analysis. We have taken a study which involves 2 types of informants: 30 Russian speakers and 30 Chinese speakers who learn Russian. The students were asked to write down 100 Russian words that they were listening to. Therefore, the research procedure has been divided into 3 steps: collecting, analyzing and processing the data.
