A comparative analysis of the linguistic markers of common knowledge as illustrated by German and Russian scientific papers on linguistics

Abstract

В работе представлен многоаспектный сравнительно-сопоставительный (структурно-грамматический, лексико-семантический, контекстно-семантический, коммуникативно-прагматический, лингводискурсивный) анализ «маркеров общеизвестности» (МО) типа allgemein bekannt и как известно, а также текстовых высказываний с ними в контекстах научной коммуникации в сфере лингвистики. Такого рода высказывания позволяют апеллировать к общепринятым в конкретном научном сообществе положениям и использовать их как «опорные точки» в своей аргументации. На материале научных статей по лингвистике из журналов «Zeitschrift für germanistische Linguistik» и «Вопросы языкознания» выделены основные дискурсивно-прагматические функции и обоснована включенность высказываний с МО в реализацию авторских стратегий подтверждения, критики общепринятых положений, определения общепринятых понятий и введения типичных примеров; установлена коммуникативная транспозиция данных высказываний в сферу формулирования выводов и обобщений, выявленных лично автором. Определена частотность употребления высказываний с МО в научных лингвистических текстах; в результате сравнения полученных статистических данных сделаны выводы о лингвокультурной специфике в употреблении высказываний с МО.

The current paper provides a multi-faceted analysis (grammar-structural, lexico-semantic, context semantic, communicative pragmatic, linguocultural and discourse-based analysis) of common knowledge markers and textual utterances with these markers used in scientific linguistic contexts. The utterances mentioned are applied by scientific writers to indicate sentences referring to common knowledge and to construct the author’s own argumentation. Data for analysis were collected from German and Russian academic journals such as „Zeitschrift für germanistische Linguistik“ and “Issues of the Linguistics”. Essential discursive and pragmatic functions fulfilled by utterances with common knowledge markers (realization of communicative strategies such as acknowledgment or common knowledge review, terms definition, introduction of typical examples) are under consideration in this paper. Based on the statistics obtained from the data the common knowledge markers occurrence and functional transposition are defined. It can be also concluded that the use of utterances considered has linguacultural aspects.
