Anton Chekhov: The history in biographies as illustrated by the "Life of Outstanding People" book series

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена изучению биографий А. П. Чехова, представленных в литературной серии «Жизнь замечательных людей». Биография – это один из древнейших литературных жанров, который сейчас представляет для исследователей особый интерес. О природе жанра биографии написано немало трудов, существуют различные точки зрения касательно ее определения, типологии, базовых характеристик, которые составляют специфику жанра. Особую сложность исследователи видят в разрешении вопроса соотношения в биографии жизни и творчества выбранного персонажа. Таким образом, в ходе нашего исследования становится очевидно, что биография требует особо внимательного исследовательского подхода, поскольку научный мир предлагает достаточно широкий спектр интерпретаций биографии как жанра. Разработанную теоретическую базу мы применили в ходе исследования трех биографий А. П. Чехова, написанных следующими авторами: Ю. В. Соболев («Чехов»), В. В. Ермилов («Чехов. 1860–1904»), А. П. Кузичева («Чехов. Жизнь "отдельного человека"»). В рамках проведенного анализа нам удалось выявить специфику каждого рассмотренного произведения, установить различия при описании тех или иных событий в жизни писателя и понять те механизмы, благодаря которым перед глазами читателя персонаж появляется именно таким, каким он был задуман согласно концепции автора. В ходе исследования использованы описательный, сравнительно-сопоставительный и культурно-исторический методы. Структура работы представляет собой введение, две главы и заключение.

In this work we explore the specific of biographies of Anton Chekhov, which are presented in the literary series «Life of Outstanding people». Biography is considered to be one of the most ancient literary genres, which now is of particular interest in the world of philology. We find a great amount of works, dedicated to the biography, there are different ways of its determinations, typologies, basic characteristics which constitute the genre specific. One of the most difficult points refers to correlation between life and creative activities of chosen character in the certain biography. Thus, due to the results of our exploration it is getting obvious that biography needs special research, because the world of science offers rather wide specter of biography interpretation as of the literary genre itself. As long as we studied the theoretical base, we could continue our research and used the received information in our exploration of next biographies of Anton Chekhov, written by Y. V. Sobolev («Chekhov»), V. V. Ermilov («Chekhov. 1860–1904») and A. P. Kuzicheva («Chekhov. Life of a "particular person"»). Due to analysis we were able to identify the specific of every single work, determine the differencies in description of certain life events and understand the mechanisms which control the readers perception and make him identify the character according to the author conception. We have used descriptive, relatively–comparative and cultural historical methods in our work, which consists of introduction, two chapters and conclusion.
