The lexico-semantic group of adjectives describing human appearance as illustrated by Anton Chekhov's works: The linguocultural aspect

Abstract

Диссертационное исследование посвящено семантическому и лингвокультурологическому анализу лексико-семантической группы имен прилагательных, описывающих внешность человека, на материале произведений А. П. Чехова. Рассматривается роль и место имен прилагательных в русской языковой картине мира, а также их функциональные и семантические особенности в сравнении с прилагательными в китайском языке. Обосновывается определение понятия «Внешность» и на основе этого определяются основы классификации: природные свойства, функциональные признаки и дополнительные элементы оформления внешности человека. Материал исследования (112 единиц) был отобран из произведений «Палата №6», «Дама с собачкой», «Человек в футляре», «Толстый и тонкий» и «Супруга». В результате анализа были выявлены функционально-семантические и национально-культурные особенности прилагательных, связанных с описанием внешности человека, в чеховских источниках, а также на фоне их китайских аналогов.

The dissertation research is devoted to the semantic and linguocultural analysis of the lexico-semantic group of adjectives, describing the appearance of person, on the material of the works of Anton Chekhov. The role and place of adjectives in the Russian language picture of the world is considered, as well as their functional and semantic features are compared with the adjectives in Chinese language. Definition of the concept "Appearance" is substantiated and on basis of this, the bases of classification are defined: natural properties, functional characteristics and additional elements of appearance of person. The research material (112 units) was selected from the works "Ward № 6", "The Lady with the Dog", "Man in a Case", "Thick and Thin" and "Spouse". As a result of the analysis, functional-semantic and national-cultural peculiarities of adjectives related to the description of a person's appearance were revealed in Chekhov's sources, as well as against the background their Chinese analogue.
