Language representation of weather conditions in English texts

Abstract

Настоящее исследование посвящено анализу фрагмента языковой картины мира, отраженной в двух типах текста (прогноз погоды, репортаж). Анализ проводится на материале американских, британских и индийских электронных англоязычных газет. Целью настоящей работы является анализ способов создания фрагмента языковой картины мира в сфере газетных публикаций, представленных тремя лингвоэтносами. Исследуемый фрагмент языковой картины мира, посвященный погодно-климатическим явлениям, носит промежуточный характер, поскольку ему свойственны особенности как научной картины мира, так и языковой.

This study examines a fragment of the linguistic worldview of the English-speaking world which is reflected in two types of texts (forecast, report). The research is based on analyzing different texts produced by British, American and Indian online newspapers. The research aims at reconstructing the fragment of the linguistic worldview of the English-speaking world. We found weather forecasts and articles about the weather, selected the examples and analyzed them not only as a set of words, but also with regard to 1) the micro context, 2) references, which have been found in the newspapers, 3) expressions made by the witnesses of the events, 4) various scientific information (tables, graphs etc.). This fragment has a mixed structure. All the features of the structure are related to both scientific worldview and linguistic worldview.
