| ru_RU |
dc.description.abstract | Life strategies of the cadet school alumni: biographical analysis The history of the Russian cadet schools (corps) dated back to the 18th century. In modern Russia, the system of primary military education is a fundamental institution of the adolescents’ socialization as future Russian officers. Nevertheless, graduates often prefer a civilian career to a military service. Aside from the academic performance, the decision taken by an alumnus is influenced by the various factors (e.g., behavior patterns based on the internalization of formal and informal rules, norms, and traditions, the experience of living together in a boarding school). Rooted in the cadet daily reality, they are essential aspects of the created identity. The memorable jargon was prevalent in the divisions. Being a verbal representation of the cadet identity, it provided differentiation by separating outsiders and unbiased observers from the people who comprehend this clandestine language (in-groupers). Hence, a concise glossary is necessary. Nowadays, the ethics of comradely solidarity and mutual help and assistance, fostered in the cadet school, is limited and par excellence embodied in the current interaction of the former cadets. Thus, it is plausible to create a model for the configuration of the social capital of the former military unit studied. Based on the conclusions drawn from the biographical interviews which were conducted by the author and the results of the social network analysis, the original research model is being designed, corrected, and verified. The social network VKontakte (vk.com) is chosen due to its popularity among the Russian-speaking Internet-users and its data policy. The results of the analysis and interviewing done are demonstrated in the form of the undirected social graphs made via Microsoft Excel and Gephi ver. 0.9.1. Therefore, life strategies are scrutinized and evaluated in terms of the current professional affiliation of the former fellow students, the co-running of joint projects, the actual duration and regularity of the alumni’ contacts, the current geographical location. This method of analyzing helps to demonstrate how life strategies of the graduates coexist with and within a network of social capital and how limits on social capital mobilization and conversion are set in a geographically disparate environment. Despite the life strategies of the SMCS alumni are individual and varied, their proper classification is possible. | en_GB |
