The interpretation of the narrative about the confrontation with the sea: A study of papyrus fragments pBN 202 and pAmherst 9

Abstract

В работе проводится исследование литературного текста Нового царства, сохранившегося на папирусных фрагментах pBN 202 и pAmherst 9, которым было дано название повествование "О противостоянии Морю" на основе главной темы произведения. В ходе интерпретации данного повествования большое значение уделяется историко-культурному контексту, благодаря которому удается лучше понять и объяснить особенности сюжета, дать характеристику действующим лицам произведения. В середине второго тысячелетия до н. э. наряду с египетским повествованием сюжет о борьбе бога грозы (в египетском варианте - Сет) с персонификацией морской стихии находит отражение в текстовой культуре других процветающих ближневосточных центров: Угарита и Анатолии (в хетто-хурритской письменной традиции). Вместе с тем, несмотря на то, что схожие по тематике источники входят в общий корпус ближневосточных текстов, египетское повествование является уникальным по своему замыслу, роли и месту основных действующих лиц. Обращает на себя внимание предполагаемая цель создания произведения, вероятно, также обусловленная историко-культурным контекстом. На основании рассмотренной цели составления египетского повествования и ее взаимосвязи с определенной исторической эпохой возможно сделать выводы о среде бытования текста, его авторе-инициаторе, охарактеризовать целевую аудиторию, что составляет в заключение неотъемлемую часть интерпретации любого письменного источника.

The graduation project is devoted to the study of the New Kingdom literary text extant on the papyrus fragments pBN 202 and pAmherst 9 titled as "The Narrative about the Confrontation with the Sea" on the basis of the main subject of the literary work. In the course of interpretation of the narrative historical and cultural context is deemed to be of utmost importance, since due to the latter one can comprehend and elucidate peculiarities of the plot and outline the features of the characters. In the middle of the 2nd millenium BC the motif of the Storm-god's combat with the personification of the Sea was reflected in the texts of other Near Eastern prosperous centres along with Egypt: Ugarit and Anatolia (in the Hittite-Hurrian written culture). Nevertheless, despite the fact that the sources with the similar subject are included in the common corpus of the Near Eastern texts, the Egyptian narrative can be defined as unique regarding its central idea as well as the role of the main characters. Special attention is drawn to the probable purpose of the narrative's composition that may have been also determined by the historical and cultural context. On the basis of the purpose proposed and its connection with the definite epoch it is possible to make an inference concerning the realm where the text was created and widespread, the figures of initiator, composers and possible readers that constitute an integral part in the interpretation of any literary source.
