The Quaternary deposits and the relief of the northern part of the Kara Sea

Abstract

Четвертичные отложения и геоморфология северной части Карского моря относительно мало изучены. Летом 2022 года в этой части Карского бассейна была проведена геолого-геофизическая экспедиция по программе Плавучего Университета МГУ-ЮНЕСКО TTR-21 «Training-through-Research». Были получены принципиально новые данные с использованием геофизических методов (многоканальная сейсморазведка сверхвысокого разрешения, акустическое профилирование и многолучевое эхолотирование). Материалы рейса послужили основой для написания выпускной квалификационной работы.

В работе обсуждаются вопросы формирования различных форм донного рельефа, а также условия геоморфологического развития Центрально-Карского желоба и его окружения, особенности строения четвертичных отложений. Представлены вывод, что многие геоморфологические черты морского дна связаны с сартанским оледенением. Наряду с этим выделены районы, где на протяжении последних МИС существовали бассейновые условия (ледниково-морские и морские отложения), а также осушенная в позднем неоплейстоцене суша, где были установлены посткриогенные структуры. Комплексный анализ материалов уточняет современную модель палеогеографического и геологического развития региона в позднечетвертичное время. Дополнительно приведены типовые сейсмограммы, характеризующие различные геоморфологические формы, различающиеся по генезису и возрасту.

Quaternary deposits and geomorphology of the northern part of the Kara Sea are relatively little studied. In the summer of 2022, a geological and geophysical expedition was carried out to this part of the Kara Basin under the program of the Floating University of Moscow State University-UNESCO TTR-21 "Training-through-Research". Fundamentally new data were obtained using geophysical methods (ultra-high resolution multichannel seismic, acoustic profiling and multibeam echo sounding). The materials of the flight served as the basis for writing the final qualifying work.

Questions of the formation of various forms of the bottom relief are discussed, as well as the conditions for the geomorphological development of the Central Kara Trench and its surroundings, and the structural features of the Quaternary deposits. The conclusion is presented that many geomorphological features of the seabed are associated with the Sartan glaciation. Along with this, areas were identified where basin conditions (glacial-marine and marine sediments) existed during the last MIS, as well as dry land in the Late Pleistocene, where post-cryogenic structures were established. A comprehensive analysis of the materials refines the modern model of the paleogeographic and geological development of the region in the Late Quaternary. Additionally, typical seismograms are given that characterize various geomorphological forms that differ in genesis and age.
