Ways of conveying realities when translating Dutch literary texts into Russian: Diachronic aspect

Abstract

Исследование посвящено проблеме передачи реалий. Целью работы является анализ выбора стратегий передачи реалий при переводе нидерландских художественных текстов на русский язык в диахроническом аспекте. Сравниваются переводы 70-х гг. XX века и 20-х гг. XXI в. Для достижения поставленной цели были рассмотрены различные подходы к определению термина «реалия», выявлены некоторые изменения в его понимании: в условиях глобализации реалии нужно рассматривать не только с точки зрения национально-культурной специфики, но и в плоскости времени, а также принадлежности участников коммуникации к определённым группам (возрастным, социальным, профессиональным), отличающимися общими фоновыми знаниями. Автор проводит разграничение между реалиями культурологическими и переводческими. Сравнительный анализ выбора стратегий переводчиками разного времени показал изменение подхода, как к передаче реалий, так и к переводу текста в целом. В настоящее время переводчики чаще используют стратегии, способствующие наиболее полной передаче значения реалий, практически не прибегая к стратегиям опущения и замены. В 70-е гг. XX века переводчики, напротив, стремились к адаптации текста, его доместикации, что зачастую приводило к искажению смысла произведения.

The study focuses on the transmission of realities. The aim of this research is to analyze the choice of strategies for transmitting realities in the translation of Dutch fiction texts into Russian in the diachronic aspect. Comparisons are made between translations from the 1970s of the 20th century and the 1920s of the 21st century. To achieve the goal, various approaches to the definition of the term "reality" were considered and some changes in its understanding were revealed: in the context of globalization, realities should be considered not only in terms of national and cultural specificity, but also in terms of time, as well as the affiliation of communication participants to certain groups (age, social, professional), that have common background knowledge. The author distinguishes between cultural and translation realities. A comparative analysis of the strategies chosen by translators of different times showed a change of approach not only to the transfer of realities, but also to the translation of the text in general. Nowadays, translators more often use strategies that contribute to the fullest transfer of the meaning of realities, almost without resorting to strategies of omission and substitution. In the 1970s, on the contrary, translators sought to adapt the text, to domesticate it, which often led to a distortion of the meaning of the text.
