Linguostylistic peculiarities of English translation of Daniil Kharms's texts

Abstract

Цель настоящего исследования - выявить лингвостилистические особенности переводов произведений Даниила Хармса на английский язык в рамках жанрово-текстологического анализа для определения степени эквивалентности ИЯ. Материалом исследования послужило девять рассказов и одна пьеса в переводах Дж. Гибиана за 1971 год и некоторые любительские переводы за 2001 год. В теоретической главе освещаются основные положения современного лингвостилистического анализа с привлечением данных когнитивно-дискурсивного изучения текстов художественных произведений. В результате текстологического, лингвостилистического и переводоведческого анализа определены пять фреймовых моделей макроструктуры текстов оригинала, представлены модели построения сверхфразовых единств и 43 переводческие трансформации, снижающие степень эквивалентности тексту ИЯ. Было выявлено, что замена является наиболее частой переводческой трансформацией при переводе произведений Даниила Хармса на английский язык.

This research examines the linguostylistic peculiarities of English translations of Daniil Kharms’ works within the framework of genre-textological analysis with the aim to define the degree of equivalence between the SL and TL. The sources of the research include nine stories and one play written by Daniil Kharms and their translation by George Gibian in 1971 and amateur translators in 2001. The theoretical chapter investigates the main statements of linguostylistic analysis with the involvement of data from the cognitive-discursive study of literary texts. Through the textological, linguostylistic, and translation analysis, this research introduces five frame types of the SL’s macrostructure, describes superphrase unity model’s structures, and identifies 43 translation transformations decreasing the degree of equivalence between the SL and TL. The research findings show that addition is the most frequently used translation transformation in the process of translation of Daniil Kharms’ works into English.
