Lexical and stylistic means of expressing the fantastic (based on the novel "The Golem" by G.Meyrink and its translation into Russian)

Abstract

Die vorliegende Abschlussarbeit ist der der Analyse der lexikalisch -stilistischen Mittel zur Wiedergabe des Fantastischen in der literarisch-schöngeistigen Übersetzung im Sprachenpaar Deutsch-Russisch gewidmet. Als Forschungsobjekt werden die sprachlichen Mittel zum Ausdruck des Fantastischen erörtert, als Forschungsgegenstand werden die rhetorischen Stilmittel zur Wiedergabe des Fantastischen bei literarisch-schöngeistiger Übersetzung im Sprachenpaar Deutsch-Russisch betrachtet. Als empirisches Material dienen dabei der Roman von G. Meyrink „Der Golem“ und seine Übersetzungen ins Russische von D. I. Wygodsky und A. M. Ssoljanow. Die Aktualität der vorliegenden Arbeit ist von der Fokussierung auf die rhetorischen Stilmittel in fantastischen Texten bedingt, die bei der sprachbezogenen Forschung am vergleichbaren Material relativ selten thematisiert werden. Das Ziel der Abschlussarbeit besteht in der Ermittlung der Rolle der rhetorischen Stilmittel beim Gestalten des Fantastischen im Roman „Der Golem“ sowie der Übersetzungsmethoden und Verfahren zu deren äquivalenter und adäquater Wiedergabe. Anhand eines quantitativ und qualitativ ausgewerteten Belegkorpus, bestehend aus insgesamt 507 parallelen Textstellen mit rhetorischen Stilmitteln aus dem Originaltext sowie den beiden Übersetzungen, wird festgestellt, dass die rhetorischen Stilmittel im Roman von G. Meyrink beim Ausgestalten unterschiedlicher Erscheinungsformen des Fantastischen auf der Ebene des Sujets und der Komposition erheblich mitwirken. Diese zusätzliche Aufgabe erfordert besondere, auf die wortsemantische Äquivalenz ausgerichtete Zugänge zum Übersetzen solcher Sprachmittel, was den Einsatz dokumentarischer Übersetzungsmethode und mäßigen Gebrauch von Transformationen voraussetzt.

The present graduate work is devoted to the analysis of the lexical and stylistic means of expressing the fantastic in literary translation in the German-Russian language pair. The linguistic means for expressing the fantastic are discussed as the object of research, the rhetorical stylistic means for expressing the fantastic in literary translation in the German-Russian language pair are considered as the subject of research. The empirical material consists of the novel by G. Meyrink "The Golem" as well as its translations into Russian by D. I. Vygodsky and A. M. Solyanov. The topicality of the present work is conditioned by the focus on the rhetorical stylistic means in fantastic texts, which are relatively rarely discussed in language-related research on comparable material. The aim of the thesis is to determine the role of rhetorical stylistic means in the creation of the fantastic in the novel "The Golem", as well as the translation methods and procedures for their equivalent and adequate reproduction. On the basis of a quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated corpus of examples, consisting of a total of 507 parallel passages with rhetorical stylistic means from the original text as well as the two translations, it is determined that the rhetorical stylistic means in the novel by G. Meyrink significantly contribute to the shaping of different manifestations of the fantastic at the level of the plot and the composition. This additional function requires special approaches to the translation of such language means, oriented to word-semantic equivalence, which presupposes the use of documentary translation method and moderate use of transformations.
