Type of the text "phrasebook" in translation and intercultural aspects: A case study of phrasebooks of the 20th-21st centuries

Главная задача нашей работы заключалась в анализе и сравнении межкультурных и переводческих особенностей немецко-русских и русско-немецких разговорников ХХ и XXI веков для выявления их сходства и различий. Основная функция разговорника состоит в обеспечении минимального общения в простых коммуникативных ситуациях при недостаточно хорошем владении иностранным языком. Разговорник представляет собой тип текста, спецификой которого является его промежуточное положение между справочной и лингвометодической литературой. В разговорнике представлены готовые штампы фраз, соотносящихся с реалиями и ситуациями определённого исторического времени и отражающих его лингвокультурологический и исторический контексты. Поскольку разговорник отражает культурные реалии той или иной страны, в нем содержатся лексемы, которые представляют трудность для перевода: безэквивалетная лексика, то есть единицы исходного языка, которые не имеют регулярных соответствий в языке перевода. Кроме безэквивалетной лексики, сложности для перевода представляют синонимия, многозначность, антонимия, нормы словоупотребления. Чтобы избежать неточностей в переводе и более адекватно передать единицы исходного языка при помощи средств языка перевода, составители разговорников используют переводческие трансформации. В ходе исследования были описаны основные стратегии перевода, а именно перестановка, замены, добавление и опущение. Проведенный анализ актуален не только для лингвистики текста и теории перевода, но может также служить вкладом в формирование единообразных принципов построения бумажных и электронных разговорников.

The main task of work was to analyse and compare the intercultural and translation features of German-Russian and Russian-German phrasebooks from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in order to identify their similarities and differences. The main function of an phrasebook is to ensure minimal communication in simple communicative situations with insufficient knowledge of the foreign language. Phrasebook is a type of text, the specificity of which is its intermediate position between the reference and linguistic literature. The phrasebook presents ready-made stamps of phrases relating to the realities and situations of a certain historical time and is reflecting its linguocultural and historical context. As the phrasebook reflects the cultural realities of a particular country, it contains lexemes that present a difficulty for translation: non-equivalent vocabulary, i.e. units of the source language that have no regular correspondences in the target language. In addition to non-equivalent vocabulary, synonymy, polysemy, antonymy and norms of word usage are also difficult to translate in another language. In order to avoid inaccuracies in translation and to convey the units of the source language more adequately by means of the target language, the authors of phrasebooks use translation transformations. This work and the research contain the main translation strategies, namely transposition, substitution, addition and omission. The conducted analysis is not only relevant for the text linguistics and translation theory but may also serve as a contribution to the formation of uniform principles of construction of paper and electronic phrasebooks.
