The principles of translating socio-political literature from English to Japanese during the Meiji Era: The case of "Self-help" by S.Smiles

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена теме “Принципы перевода общественно-политической литературы с английского на японский язык в эпоху Мэйдзи на примере труда С.Смайлса «Самопомощь»”. Работа состоит из 50 страниц: Введения, двух глав, Заключения, Списка использованной литературы из 31 пункта. Объектом исследования в данной ВКР является перевод “Самопомощи” Накамура Масанао с английского на японский язык (1871 г.), а предметом исследования - принципы перевода “Самопомощи” Накамура Масанао с английского на японский язык. Целью работы стало выявление принципов перевода “Самопомощи” Накамура Масанао, которые определили переводческие средства и приемы, использованные в переводе. В результате проделанной работы были сделаны выводы о мере эквивалентности перевода и оригинала “Самопомощи” согласно точкам зрения разных переводческих школ, а также определены переводческие подходы и приемы, которыми руководствовался Накамура Масанао.

The final qualification paper is dedicated to the topic "Principles of translation of socio-political literature from English to the Japanese language during the Meiji Era by the example of "Self-help" by S.Smiles”. The paper consists of 50 pages: Introduction, two chapters, Conclusion, and list of references including 31 items. The object of research is the translation of “Self-help” made by Nakamura Masanao from English to Japanese (1871 year), and the subject of the study is the principles of translation of “Self-help” by Nakamura Masanao from English to Japanese. The purpose was to identify the principles of translation of “Self-help” by Nakamura Masanao that determined the translation tools and techniques used in the process of translation. As a result of the work, there have been made conclusions about the degree of equivalence of the translation and the original of “Self-Help” according to the points of view of different translation schools. Also, approaches and techniques used in the translation by Nakamura are adducted.
