Linguistic means of representation of the concept "Axis of Evil" in modern English journalistic texts

Abstract

Настоящая работа посвящена исследованию языковых средств, используемых в текстах дискурса «Оси зла», направленных на оказание персуазивного речевого воздействия. Актуальность данного исследования связана с тем, что дискурс «Оси зла» оказывает значительное влияние на политический дискурс США, а также мировой политический дискурс, пополняясь все новыми текстами, обличающими страны, режимы и организации, которые характеризуются, как представители «Оси зла». В ходе данного исследования был рассмотрен генезис понятия «Ося зла», а также продемонстрирована необходимость его анализа в контексте политического дискурса США. В частности, в рамках публичных речей ряда президентов США. Таким образом, в ходе работы были проанализированы тексты, характерные для дискурса «Оси зла», кроме того, были выявлены ключевые стратегии и тактики оказания персуазивного эффекта, а также типичные и специфические языковые средства, используемые для этого.

This paper is devoted to the examination of linguistic means that are employed in the texts of the "Axis of Evil" discourse, and aimed at ensuring an impact of persuasive speech. The importance of this study stems from the significance of the "Axis of Evil" discourse in the United States, and all over the world as more and more countries, regimes, and organizations are being described as ones bearing characteristics akin to the representatives of the "Axis of Evil". The paper deals with the genesis of the concept of "Axis of Evil", points out the necessity for its analysis in the context of the US political discourse. In particular, within the framework of public speeches of some US presidents. Thus, the study examines the characteristics of the “Axis of Evil” discourse, key strategies and tactics effected for a certain persuasive impact, as well as typical and specific linguistic means used for it.
