A comparative study of English and Chinese onomatopoeic lexis (the novel by S.M. Kidd "The Secret Life of Bees" and its Chinese translation)

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена выявлению особенностей ономатопеи в английском и китайском языках на материале романа С. М. Кидд «Тайная жизнь пчёл». В первой главе были рассмотрены теоретические аспекты изучения ономатопеи в английском языке. Было определено понятие звукоподражания, выявлены его основные виды в языкознании, а также в английском языке в частности. Во второй главе представлены результаты сравнительного анализа звукоподражательной лексики на материале романа С. М. Кидд «Тайная жизнь пчёл» и его перевода на китайский язык. Анализ звукоподражаний в английском и китайском языке позволил сделать вывод о том, что носители китайского и английского языков по-разному воспринимают звучание окружающих звуков, что находит отражение в разных звукоподражаниях одних и тех же звуков. Результаты исследования вносят вклад в понимание различий в ономатопеи двух языков, а также особенностей перевода данной лексики, могут быть использованы переводчиками для создания более качественных и доступных для понимания конечного читателя переводческих интерпретаций произведений литературы.

The final qualifying work is devoted to identifying the features of onomatopoeia in English and Chinese based on the material of S. M. Kidd's novel "The Secret Life of Bees". In the first chapter, the theoretical aspects of the study of onomatopoeia in English were considered. The concept of onomatopoeia was defined, its main types in linguistics were identified, as well as in the English language in particular. The second chapter presents the results of a comparative analysis of onomatopoeic vocabulary based on the material of S. M. Kidd's novel "The Secret Life of Bees" and its translation into Chinese. The analysis of onomatopoeia in English and Chinese allowed us to conclude that native speakers of Chinese and English perceive the sound of surrounding sounds differently, which is reflected in different onomatopoeia of the same sounds. The results of the study contribute to the understanding of the differences in the onomatopoeia of the two languages, as well as the peculiarities of the translation of this vocabulary, can be used by translators to create higher-quality and understandable to the end reader translation interpretations of literary works.
