Use of translation transformations in the German translation of Olga Forsh´s novel "The Lunatic Ship"/"Russisches Narrenschiff"

Abstract

В 2019 году был опубликован первый перевод романа Ольги Форш «Сумасшедший корабль» на немецкий язык в исполнении Кристианы Пёльманн. Настоящее исследование посвящено изучению использованных при переводе данного романа переводческих трансформаций. Работа состоит из введения, двух глав, теоретической и исследовательской, заключения, списка литературы (34 наименования, из них 26 на русском языке и 9 на немецком) и приложения с корпусом выдержек на языке оригинала и их соответствий на немецком языке (объемом в 45 стр.). Корпус примеров составил 245 параллельных выдержек из русскоязычного и немецкоязычного текстов.

В первой главе рассматриваются различные подходы к дефинициям таких основных теоретических понятий, как перевод и эквивалентность в переводе. Затем описываются особенности художественного перевода. Делается вывод о том, что трансформации являются неотъемлемой частью процесса художественного перевода, и рассматриваются различные подходы к классификации переводческих трансформаций. Наиболее удобной для рассмотрения оказывается классификация Л. К. Латышева, которая делит трансформации на категориально-морфологические, синтаксические, лексические, глубинные и специфические в зависимости от того, на каком из языковых уровней они осуществляются.

Во второй главе на основе вышеупомянутой классификации Л. К. Латышева предпринимается попытка подробного анализа перевода заглавия романа, 35 выдержек из корпуса примеров, а также перевода реалий.

В заключении указывается на особенности применения переводческих трансформаций Кристианой Пёльманн: на разнообразие используемых ею трансформаций, тенденцию к глубинным и специфическим трансформациям и на продуктивность трансформаций в целом как средство сохранения индивидуального стиля автора в ПЯ.

The novel of the Russian writer Olga Forsh “The Lunatic Ship“ was first translated into German by Christiane Pöhlmann in 2019. This graduation thesis studies the use of translation transformations in the German translation of the novel. The work consists of an introduction, two chapters, a theory chapter and a research chapter, a conclusion, a list of references (34 titles, including 26 in Russian and 9 in German) and an appendix (45 pages long) with a corpus of extracts in the original language and their correspondences in German. The corpus of examples contains 245 parallel excerpts from Russian and German-language texts.

The first chapter considers different approaches to the definitions of such basic theoretical concepts as translation and equivalence in translation. Then, the peculiarities of the literary translation are described. The conclusion is made that transformations are an integral part of the process of the literary translation. Further different approaches to the classification of translation transformations are discussed. The most convenient classification for consideration is the classification of L. K Latyshev, who divides transformations into morphological, syntactical, lexical, profound and specific ones, depending on which of the linguistic levels they are used.

In the second chapter, based on the above-mentioned classification of L. K Latyshev, an attempt is made to analyze in detail the translation of the title of the novel, of the 35 excerpts from the corpus, as well as the translation of culture-specific elements.

The conclusion points out the peculiarities of Christiane Pölmann's use of translation transformations: the variety of transformations she uses, the tendency to profound and specific transformations, and the productivity of transformations in general as a means of preserving the author's individual style in the target language.
