Typology of characters in the Russian fantastic short stories of the first third of the 19th century

Abstract

Существует определённое количество исследований, посвящённых типологическому изучению персонажей в русской литературе, однако подобные исследования практически не проводились в отношении жанра русских фантастических повестей. В настоящей работе предпринимается попытка создания типологии персонажей одной из модификаций русских фантастических повестей первой трети XIX века. Мы сосредоточились на повестях с любовными сюжетами. Новизна исследования состоит в цельном рассмотрении системы персонажей выделенной группы фантастических повестей и выявлении общих закономерностей функционирования этой системы.

There are a certain number of researches devoted to the typological study of the characters of Russian literature; however, there is no typology of characters in the Russian fantastic short stories. In this paper, an attempt is made to create a typology of characters in one of the modifications of Russian fantastic short stories of the first third of the 19th century. We will mainly focus on stories with love plots. The reason for our research is the need to generalize the previously accumulated material, structure it and identify the types of characters common to Russian fantastic short stories of this period.
