Neologisms of the lockdown era (a case study of printed media)

Abstract

Данное исследование направлено на анализ неологизмов с тематикой локдауна в английском языке. Главная цель – это структурно-семантический анализ неологизмов, определение специфики их функционирования в современной прессе. Материалом послужили неологизмы, встречающиеся в статьях современных газет и журналов. В первой главе рассматриваются понятие неологии и неологизма, освещается проблематика исследования неологизмов, представлены существующие классификации неологизмов. Во второй главе проанализированы неологизмы, полученные из статей современных СМИ, с точки зрения семантики и структуры. В результате семантического анализа неологизмы были распределены на семантические группы. Структурный анализ позволил выявить основные продуктивные модели словообразования неологизмов с тематикой локдауна. На основе результатов исследования был сделан вывод, что основная часть неологизмов периода локдауна является наименованиями для болезни, людей, явлений и процессов новой реальности. Анализ неологизмов также показал, что основным способом их образования является морфемная деривация. Исследование позволило сделать вывод, что две основные функции неологизмов с тематикой локдауна в прессе – номинативная функция и функция привлечения внимания адресата.

This study aims to analyze neologisms of the lockdown era in English. The main purpose is a structural and semantic analysis of neologisms, as well as determining specifics of their functioning in modern media. The material included neologisms found in the articles of modern newspapers and magazines. The first chapter deals with the concept of neology and neologism, highlights the problems of researching neologisms, and presents the existing classifications of neologisms. The second chapter analyzes the neologisms that are derived from the articles of modern media from the perspective of their semantics and structure. As a result of semantic analysis, neologisms were classified into semantic groups. Structural analysis made it possible to identify the main productive models of word formation of neologisms of the lockdown era. Based on the results of the study it was concluded that the majority of the neologisms of the lockdown era are the names for the disease, people, events and processes of the new reality. The analysis of neologisms also showed that the main way of their formation is morphemic derivation. According to the study, the two main functions of neologisms of the lockdown era in the media are the nominative function and the function of attracting the attention of the recipient.
