Challenges to the EU policies under the increased competition between the USA and China

Abstract

Работа посвящена анализу возникших для Европейского Союза вызовов в условиях усилившейся конкуренции между США и Китаем. Представлен анализ причин ухудшения двусторонних американо-китайских отношений, которые стали основой для начала торговой войны между ними,усиления технологического соперничества, а также участившихся разногласий по линии соблюдения прав человека. В работе определены интересы Евросоюза в поддержании и развитии двусторонних отношений как с КНР, так и с США. Больше значение в работе уделяется реакции официальных лиц, лидеров стран-членов Евросоюза на усилившееся соперничество США и Китая, а также тому, как новые вызовы отражаются в официальных стратегических и программных документах ЕС. Отдельно рассматриваются принимаемые меры для борьбы с этими вызовами.

The work is devoted to the analysis of the challenges that have arisen for the European Union in the context of increased competition between the United States and China. The analysis of the reasons for the deterioration of bilateral US-Chinese relations, which became the basis for the start of a trade war between them, the intensification of technological rivalry, as well as the increasing disagreement over the observance of human rights, is presented. The work identifies the interests of the European Union in maintaining and developing bilateral relations with both the PRC and the United States. More attention is paid to the reaction of officials, leaders of the EU member states to the increased rivalry between the USA and China, as well as to how new challenges are reflected in the official strategic and program documents of the EU. Separately the measures taken to combat these challenges are considered.
