Speech etiquette in the traditional culture of the Russian North: Semantics, structure and functioning. Evidence from the Archive "Spiritual Culture of the Russian North in Folk Literature"

Abstract

В рамках данной работы исследуются формулы речевого этикета, бытующие на территории Русского Севера. Русский Север – особая географическая зона с культурно-исторической точки зрения, характеризующаяся рядом признаков различной онтологии, в том числе – лингвистического свойства. Большая часть формул является благопожеланиями: этой этикетной группе в работе уделено особое внимание в исследовании. В исследовании производится попытка описать и проанализировать особенности структуры и функционирования единиц речевого этикета, а именно благопожеланий, бытующих на Русском Севере. Исследование выполнено на материале Архива «Духовная культура Русского Севера в народной словесности» (СДК). В фокусе исследования находятся компонентный состав благопожеланий, особенности структурного варьирования, а также проявление наиболее выразительной – эстетической – функции формул речевого этикета в речи диалектоносителя. Народная культура онтологически диалектна: диалектная лексика маркирует благопожелание как фольклорное, а также создаёт поистине народный колорит. А использование того или иного слова обусловлено темой ситуации (пожелание успеха, удачи, здоровья) и связано с деятельностью адресата (ткацкая работа, чаепитие, стирка белья и пр.).

In the following research the author studies the formulas of speech etiquette existing in the Russian North. The Russian North is a unique geographic zone, from a cultural point of view, which is characterized by a number of peculiarities with linguistic ones among them. The majority of these formulas present good wishes and the author pays special attention to this etiquette group. In this thesis, the author tries to describe and analyze the peculiarities of structure of speech etiquette and also the ways in which the unities of speech etiquette function focusing specifically on good wishes existing in the Russian North. The Archive "Spiritual Culture of the Russian North in Folk Literature" is used as data for this study. The author focuses on the composition of good wishes, peculiarities of structural variation and also focuses on how the aesthetic function of the formulas of speech etiquette is represented in speech of a dialect speaker. Folk culture is ontologically dialectic: dialectic vocabulary marks good wishes as folkloristic and creates a truly folk coloring. The usage of a word is caused by the theme of a situation (a wish of good health, luckiness or success) and is related to the addressee’s activity (weaving, tea-drinking, laundry etc).
